Accessories for Prado 150

Roof Racks, Towbars & 4×4 Accessories for the Toyota Prado 150 (2009–2024)

The 150 Series Prado is one of Australia's most popular 4WDs, and a great base for touring, towing and family trips. This page brings together what we fit to it most: towbars, roof racks and platforms, drawer systems, bull bars and more, along with the Prado-specific details that decide which parts fit yours. Everything here can be supplied and fitted at our four NSW stores in Kotara, Maitland, Artarmon and Burwood.

Tell us your Prado's year and grade and what you want to do with it. We'll put together the parts and a price.

Which Prado 150 Have You Got?

The 150 was sold for fifteen years and changed a fair bit along the way. Your build year decides which towbar, bull bar and towing rating apply, so it's the first thing we'll ask.
2009Launched with a 3.0 turbo-diesel and a 4.0 V6 petrol
2013First facelift, with a new grille and lights
20152.8 turbo-diesel replaces the 3.0
2017Major facelift and new front end. Diesel autos rated to tow 3,000 kg
2024Replaced by the all-new Prado 250

Before or after the late-2017 facelift? The front end, and with it every bull bar, changed in late 2017. Your rego papers show the build year, and the model code is on the vehicle's ID plate.
Got the newer Prado 250?It's a different vehicle from the ground up, so almost nothing on this page fits it. We fit the 250 too. Get in touch and we'll tell you what's available.

Prado 150 by the Numbers

These are the limits we check before recommending a towbar or roof setup. Always go by the figures for your exact vehicle, which are in the owner's handbook.
3,000 kgBraked towing, 2.8 diesel auto from late 2017
2,500 kgBraked towing, earlier Prado 150s and all manuals
300 kgTowball download on 3,000 kg models (250 kg on the others)
750 kgMost you can tow without trailer brakes
Roof load: the rack counts tooYour roof load limit is in the owner's handbook, and the rack's own weight comes out of it. A platform on a Backbone mounting system weighs around 30–40 kg before any gear goes on.
Side-opening door or flat tailgate? Most Prado 150s have a side-hinged rear door with the spare wheel on it. Some later grades have a flat tailgate with the spare underneath. That changes which bike carriers and rear-door accessories will work.

What We Fit to the Prado 150

Towbars

Towbars for the Prado 150

Choose the towbar by what your Prado is rated to tow, not by what you'd like it to tow. A 3,000 kg towbar on a Prado rated for 2,500 kg still leaves you at 2,500 kg.
For the 2.8 diesel auto built from November 2017, we fit Hayman Reese's 3,000 kg kit with a concealed, removable tongue and a 7-pin flat plug. Earlier Prados and manuals get a kit matched to their 2,500 kg rating. Towing more than 2,000 kg means trailer brakes you can work from the driver's seat, so plan on an electric brake controller such as the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite.
If you're putting a bike carrier on the towbar, it needs to tilt or swing away so the side-hinged rear door can still open.

Roof racks

Roof racks and platforms for the Prado 150

If your Prado has factory roof rails, bars that clamp onto them are the simplest setup for bikes, boards or a roof box. For heavier touring loads, Rhino-Rack's Backbone bolts to the Prado's own roof mounting points and carries a full-length Pioneer platform. Front Runner's Slimsport is another full-length option and is ready for a light bar. The Backbone takes about an hour and a half to fit.

Drawers & cargo

Drawer systems and cargo barriers

MSA's Prado 150 drawer system is aluminium with stainless fasteners, comes as a full kit or a single left or right drawer, and has a stay-open block so the drawer doesn't slam shut when you're parked on a slope. On seven-seat Prados the third row usually has to come out first, so tell us which you have.
Add a cargo barrier and a load that shifts in a hard stop stays in the back, out of the cabin. We fit barriers made for the 150's cargo area.

Bull bars

Bull bars for the Prado 150

Because the front end changed in late 2017, a bar made for a 2015 Prado won't fit a 2019. Offroad Animal's Predator and Toro bars suit 2018–2024 Prado 150s. Both are ADR compliant and airbag compatible, and they work with the factory parking sensors and adaptive cruise radar.
Both take a low-mount winch and have room for lights. Kakadu models need a different bash plate. Fitting takes about four hours, and we can wire in driving lights or a light bar at the same time.

Prado 150 Questions

It depends on the year and transmission. The 2.8 diesel automatic built from the late-2017 update is rated to tow 3,000 kg braked with up to 300 kg on the towball. Earlier Prado 150s, and manuals of any year, are rated to 2,500 kg with 250 kg on the towball. Every Prado 150 can tow up to 750 kg without trailer brakes. Check the figures for your exact vehicle in the owner's handbook.
One that matches your vehicle's rating. For a 2.8 diesel auto built from November 2017, that's a 3,000 kg kit such as the Hayman Reese bar we stock. Earlier models and manuals take a 2,500 kg kit. Fitting a higher-rated towbar doesn't raise what the Prado itself is allowed to tow. Give us your build month and year and we'll match the right kit and wiring.
Yes. Bars that clamp to rails are only one option. There are also racks that mount to the Prado's roof mounting points, and Rhino-Rack's Backbone system uses those same points to carry a full platform. Tell us your grade and year and we'll confirm what suits your roof.
Usually only once the third row is out, because the drawer system takes up the floor where those seats fold away. Some owners go for a single drawer on one side to keep more flexibility. Let us know how often you use the third row and we'll suggest the best layout.
Not if it's the right bar. The Offroad Animal bars we fit to 2018–2024 Prado 150s are airbag compatible and designed to work with the factory parking sensors and adaptive cruise radar. A bar made for the pre-2018 front won't fit a later Prado, so we always check your build date first.
A fixed one can. Most Prado 150s have a side-hinged rear door, so a towbar-mounted carrier needs to tilt or swing away to let it open. If you'd rather not deal with that, a roof-mounted carrier on your rack is the other option.
Yes. Towbars, roof racks, drawers, bull bars and accessories are fitted at Kotara, Maitland, Artarmon and Burwood. Window tinting is done at Kotara and Maitland only. Call your nearest store with your Prado's year and grade to book.

What our customers say
Wonderful people to deal with, very good throughout the process and delivered a quality hard lid for my vehicle. Were excellent with any after sales questions, making me feel like they wanted to look after their customers.
Darren M., Maitland
What a team! This is my 3rd set of roof racks I’ve had installed by these legends and this one was by far the most complex on my new work van. I have a pretty high attention to detail and Andrew in the office and Beau installing them absolutely nailed it. Very happy and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. Thanks again
James C., Kotara
Great store to get fitted out for roof racks and attachments for the car. They fitted my first set of roof racks and have helped me out with all the changes to my setup for over 10 years. Great and knowledgeable service too.
Christopher Y., Artarmon
